Trader Joe’s Is Expanding Across New York in 2026: Here’s Where

Trader Joe’s is on one of its biggest growth streaks yet. And New York is getting a big share of it.

Here’s what’s confirmed so far, and which parts of the state are getting a new location this year.

How Many New Trader Joe’s Stores Are Coming to New York?

Trader Joe’s confirmed plans for 25 new stores across 14 states. New York picked up two of the newest additions: Syracuse and Yonkers.

That’s on top of several other New York locations already in the works:

  • Miller Place — opened February 12, 2026
  • Glenmont — announced, opening date not yet confirmed
  • Pleasant Plains, Staten Island — part of the chain’s push into all five boroughs
  • Williamsville (near Buffalo) — added to the “coming soon” list

Why Is Trader Joe’s Growing So Fast Right Now?

This isn’t a one-off. Trader Joe’s opened 34 stores in 2024. It opened 43 stores in 2025. Now it plans to open more than 20 stores in 2026.

The company already runs more than 600 stores nationwide. That footprint spans 42 states plus Washington, D.C.

So why New York specifically? A company spokesperson said the strategy targets neighborhoods that don’t already have a location. Sometimes, though, the chain adds a second store nearby. That happens when traffic makes it hard for shoppers to reach the first one.

That’s exactly what’s playing out in New York right now:

  • The new Syracuse store will be the second Trader Joe’s in Onondaga County.
  • The new Westchester store will be the fifth location in Westchester County. It’s meant to ease crowding at the busy Hartsdale and Scarsdale stores.

What Makes These New Locations Notable?

A few of the New York additions stand out for where they’re landing.

Syracuse: Opening inside the Fairmount Fair shopping plaza. It’ll sit between a Target and a Wegmans, just down the road from Walmart and Tops.

Yonkers: Adds to the chain’s growing presence in Westchester County.

Staten Island: The Amboy Road location marks a rare expansion into a borough that’s had fewer Trader Joe’s options than Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Why This Matters Beyond Just Grocery Shopping

A new Trader Joe’s tends to shake up the local grocery scene wherever it lands.

The chain consistently ranks high on customer loyalty. So nearby supermarkets often respond. They adjust prices. They expand their own private label offerings to compete.

For neighborhoods getting a new store, that’s often a sign of something bigger. It usually points to rising foot traffic and retail demand in the area.

Bottom Line

New York is getting a meaningful chunk of Trader Joe’s 2026 growth. Syracuse, Yonkers, Glenmont, Miller Place, Staten Island, and Williamsville are all part of it.

Most opening dates aren’t confirmed yet. Keep an eye on Trader Joe’s official site if there’s one opening near you.
